Food
and Talk
Last week I attended a dinner party. When I got
arrived, the hostess directed me to sit next to Mrs. Simpson. She was an
overweight lady with an expressionless face and wearing a black tight dress.
When I had a sit, she was staring at her plate and my presence did not seem
bother her. Once a meal was ready, she was soon busy eating. Being friendly, I
took an initiative to make conversation.
‘People are talking about new movie at Empire XXI.
Have you seen it? I asked.
‘No,’ she replied.
‘Are you going to go on a long vocation near in the
future?’ I asked.
‘No,’ she answered.
‘Are you happy to be in Pert?’ I asked another
question.
‘No,’ she gave another short answer.
At last, I desperately asked, ‘Are you enjoying your
dinner?’
‘Young man, we would both enjoy the dinner party if
you ate more and talked less,’ she finally gave a long reply.
